Before I get to my list, I just wanted to thank Two Chicks on Books, Fiktshun, Confessions of a Bookaholic, A Life Bound By Books, and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads for hosting the Top 10 of 2012 this year. This has been so much fun and it’s been great seeing what other people loved and are looking forward to in the new year.
For my final Top Ten list of the year, here are the books I’m most looking forward to next year! 2013 definitely seems to be the year of the sequel/long-time author. So many of my favourite authors are releasing new books, it’s going to be hard for me to get to the debuts (but I’ve promised to read at least twelve!). This list is focused on my favourite sequels/authors publishing this year.
In no particular order…
Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter – I’m a huge Ally Carter fan, and I’m really hoping that with this new Heist Society novel, Kat and Hale get it ON. =p Of course, it doesn’t help that Hale is the target in this one…but still.
“Detergent” by Veronica Roth – I MUST KNOW how it all ends. And I need more Tris-Four action. And also Peter, that devious jerk. I have a weird fascination with him.
Invisibility by David Levithan and Andrea Cremer – I love David Levithan, but I am not a paranormal girl, and Andrea Cremer’s books really sound like opposite-of-Tiff books. Why is this on here, then? Two reasons: 1) some of my favourite authors have endorsed Cremer, so this might be a good entry point to her books 2) because I’m so curious to see how this is all going to play out.
A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty – I loved The Year of the Secret Assignments and Feeling Sorry for Celia. I can’t wait to read this new offering from Moriarty that seems to include quite a bit of physics…I love physics!
Just One Day by Gayle Forman – I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this, and I really haven’t. But a “Lost in Translation”-style romance by Gayle Forman? I needed to get this the second I heard about it.
Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins – I think I speak for all Stephanie Perkins fans when I say that it has been too long since one of her books came out. I’m dying to see Anna, Etienne, Cricket, Lola, Isla and Josh meet up one more time in Paris…trust me, it’s going to happen!
The Elite by Kiera Cass – I’ve been obsessed with The Selection since I got my grubby little hands on it. I totally fell in love with America and Prince Maxon and the awesome way Cass blended the princess-y aspects with dystopian. Please, can I have it now?
Revenge of the Girl with the Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg – I love the idea of turning the “well, she’s not pretty, but she has a great personality” thing that every girl says into the revenge scheme for a novel. Eulberg always has awesome concepts for her books, and this one sounds pretty fantastic.
Across A Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund – Ok, you all know my love for all things Peterfreund. Well, if you haven’t heard, she’s got a companion to For Darkness Shows the Stars coming out, an adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Think badass female superhero. And frocks. I can’t WAIT for this.
Jane Austen Goes to Hollywood by Abby McDonald – speaking of adaptations…Abby McDonald has a Hollywood-inspired adaptation of Sense & Sensibility coming out! I love Abby’s sassy female characters, and I love that she’s writing this after her move to L.A. I can’t wait to read her observations of Hollywood and to see what she does with S&S.
