Welcome to Mostly YA Lit’s Unexpectedly Epic Morgan Matson Week (I know, that’s a mouthful)!
I’m so delighted to kick off my weeklong celebration of YA author Morgan Matson’s work. If you’ve read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, Second Chance Summer, Since You’ve Been Gone, or The Unexpected Everything, you know that Morgan is an absolute master at capturing the adventure and whimsy of everyday life, the wonder of having great family and friends, and the romances that crop up when you least expect them, the tough parts, the unexpectedly epic parts…
And that’s why I put this week together. It’s not only a celebration of Morgan’s books and writing – it’s a celebration of summer and friendship and family and love and just being grateful for the things that make you happy.
This week, you’ll see reviews, giveaways, and thoughts from me and other bloggers, readers, and publishers on what makes Morgan’s books just click for them, Matson boys, fashion, dogs, and more! And 15 wonderful people around the world will also be taking the #UnexpectedlyEpic dare challenge, doing fun and unique dares inspired by the characters in Since You’ve Been Gone (linky below).
Check out the schedule and follow along and discuss using hashtags #UnexpectedlyEpic and #MorganMatsonWeek! Can’t wait to fangirl with you over Morgan!

The Unexpected Everything was my first Morgan Matson book and I can safely say I’ll read anything she publishes at this point. She became an insta-buy after just one book.
I started reading contemporary YA last year and Morgan has been one author that’s been repeatedly mentioned by friends and I just haven’t gotten a chance to read her books yet. However all that is going to change because I have all her books checked out from the library! Plus a friend gave me an ARC copy of Unexpected Everything so I plan to binge her books soon.
Morgan Matson is one of my favorite contemporary authors. It’s so hard for me to choose between the three books of hers that I’ve read, maybe Second Chance Summer is my favorite, all of her books are really emotional, but I think that was the most emotional for me.
I love Morgan’s books! She has a knack for capturing genuine emotion and making you fall for her characters. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is my favourite of hers, but The Unexpected Everything comes in a close second. 🙂
I’m not a fan yet, but I look forward to reading this one! I have read a ton of good reviews for this one!
My first and favourite is Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, but I’m currently reading Since You’ve Been Gone and I’m really enjoying it! Can’t wait to start The Unexpected Everything, it sounds lovely (:
I love Second Chance Summer!
I’m dying to read The Unexpected Everything. My library has Since You’ve Been Gone and I plan to borrow it soon.

[…] Unexpectedly Epic Morgan Matson Week […]
I am not a fan of hers yet but her books seem like really interesting summer reads, especially after seeing all the hype about The Unexpected Everything!
I am a HUGE Morgan Matson fan…I am currently in the middle of The Unexpected Everything (it’s taking me longer to read than I would like as I am in currently in my High School’s musical, something Amy would appreciate), and while A&R is the first of her books I ever read so it has a very special place in my heart, I have re-read Since You’ve Been Gone more times than I should be willing to admit. I do not own Second Chance Summer, so I’ve only read it once (but I am DYING to read it again!)
I haven’t read a Mogan Matson book yet, but she’s been on my radar for a while. I love fun contemporaries!

I love Morgan Matson’s books! I love how relatable the characters are and the summer vibes her books have. I’ve only read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour and Since You’ve Been Gone so far, but I’m trying to make my way through the list.
I love when you do these author weeks! Just finished up my first year of grad school and The Unexpected Everything is the first book I will be reading to celebrate.
I’ve only read Amy & Roger SO FAR, but I am dying to read more by Morgan. They all sound great and Amy & Roger was fantastic.

I’m her fan in that I think she’s an interesting person, but I haven’t read any of her books before. They’ve been getting such good buzz that I’m intrigued. Though I don’t normally go for YA contemps, I am always tempted by a good story regardless. 🙂
