GIVEAWAY + Author Guest Post: On The X-Files & THE WINNOWING by Vikki VanSickle

Hi guys, I’m delighted today to be part of the blog tour for The Winnowing by Vikki VanSickle! If you are a Stranger Things or X-Files fan, this book is TOTALLY your jam. 90s conspiracy theories + teens? YES. If you’re following me on Instagram (if not, why not do so now?! ), you’ll know that I attended Vikki’s launch last week. Vikki is one of the coolest people I’ve met through blogging. She’s a Toronto author of children’s and middle grade books, a publicist for Penguin Random House Canada, a former bookseller, a true champion of YA and children’s lit, and […]

The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord | Blog Tour + Review

Hi guys, I’m delighted to be part of the Canadian blog tour for THE NAMES THEY GAVE US by Emery Lord. As some of you know, Emery is one of my all-time favorite, auto-buy authors. I love her so much that I hosted a week-long celebration of her work a few years ago! For this blog tour, I got to ask Emery one question, and I’ve also got a review of this wonderful book. Check it out. Review: The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord THE NAMES THEY GAVE US was a unique and personal read for me, and […]

The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee | Review

Review: The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee The Secret of a Heart Note follows Mimosa and her mother, the last two aromateurs in the world. They are perfume specialists with high senses of smell who traffick in love – that is, love elixirs and potions. With this power, though, comes great responsibility. Mim and her mother must adhere to a lot of rules: to help everyone who needs help with love (within reason). To not accept payment for their services. To not divulge their secrets. And to do everything in their power not to lose their nose […]

GIVEAWAY CONTEST: Heartless by Marissa Meyer | Blog Tour: Queen of Hearts Excerpt + Review!

GIVEAWAY CONTEST: Heartless by Marissa Meyer | Blog Tour: Queen of Hearts Excerpt + Review!

Hi guys, I’m delighted to be the first stop on the Canadian blog tour for Heartless by Marissa Meyer! Heartless comes out tomorrow, and to celebrate, I’ve got an excerpt focused on the future Queen of Hearts herself, Lady Catherine Pinkerton, and my review. Oh, and I’m also giving away a copy of the book – internationally! As many of you know, I’m a HUGE fan of Ms. Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series, which are four connected sci-fi fairy tale retellings. Marissa has an incredible talent for making fairy tale characters realistic and making us care about them. At the same time, she plays […]

[NO SPOILERS] Series Review | The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Background artwork created by Maggie Stiefvater – I’m just borrowing it. Find out how you can own it here! As some of you know, I am a huge fan of The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. It’s actually the only hard paranormal/supernatural series I’ve ever really full-on loved, which is a testament to Maggie’s amazing writing. I was lucky enough to receive my pre-order of The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater super early, so I read and review it (spoiler-free!) for today, release day! And because I hadn’t yet reviewed The Dream Thieves or Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I’m doing that […]

#WaitingonWednesday: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

#WaitingonWednesday: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

THIS BOOK COVER IS THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING FOR ME. ICE CREAM? Check. Summer? Check. DOGS? Check. Morgan Matson? Check, check, check. I already have a massive thing for books about kids in political families. So Morgan Matson writing a book about that? I’m so there. This is the Morgan Matson whose debut novel, Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, got me writing again. The same Morgan who slayed my heart with the glorious realness of Emily in Since You’ve Been Gone. The same Matson whose sophomore novel, Second Chance Summer, I’m terrified of reading because I’m afraid I’ll die of feels. […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

Waiting on Wednesday: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

I’ve had several of Dahlia’s books on my TBR for ages, and I’m pretty excited to read them, but this one…this synopsis really got me. Maybe because it’s a bit more grounded than her Daylight Falls series, which features Hollywood actors. Either way, I love the whole senior year visiting colleges thing – it’s something that resonated a lot with me because as a senior at my American high school in Hong Kong, figuring out the right college for me dominated my every thought (especially since I couldn’t visit myself). I can’t wait to see Reagan and Victoria figure out […]

#TopTenTuesday: 11 Books On My (Imaginary) Gender in YA Syllabus!

I loved this week’s TTT topic so much that I ended up choosing 11 books! I would definitely want to teach a course called Feminism & Gender Identity in Literature for/about Youth, and here’s what would be on the syllabus: Tap & Gown by Diana Peterfreund – the whole Secret Society Girl series is a course in feminism, but Peterfreund does her best work in discussing sexual abuse, harassment and how to survive in an old boys club in this, my favourite of the four books. None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio – if this book isn’t already on course […]
