You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner | Waiting on Wednesday

Sometimes I find out about books on my own. Sometimes I get recs. But most often, I add books to my TBR based on WoW picks and posts like this one by my friend Jen from Pop! Goes the Reader: Not only is this an incredibly unique story about a graffiti artist, but it also has elements of friendship, of diversity and inclusion, and hot damn, it’s an illustrated YA. The author, Whitney Gardner, even did some of the cover art herself! This promises to be one of the most groundbreaking books I’ll pick up in 2017 (thank you, Jen, […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Tumbling by Caela Carter

Waiting on Wednesday: Tumbling by Caela Carter

I feel like I’ve been waiting for Tumbling by Caela Carter forever; I first heard about it last year and it immediately made my must-have list because GYMNASTICS YA. Have I mentioned I’m a huge fan of Make It Or Break It, the short-lived ABC Family series, and sports YA in general? The synopsis makes me think this is definitely going to be a lot like that show when the stakes get high. And as we know…when the stakes get high, that’s when the competition really gets fierce. Is Tumbling on your TBR? Are you a fan of sports in your books? […]

This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills | Waiting on Wednesday

This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills | Waiting on Wednesday

Look, all I have to say is that that cover matches my Waiting on Wednesday image, which should tell you that this book and I are meant to be. Still not convinced? How about the fact that it includes a quest for a missing painting? How about the fact that there’s going to be romance and friendship and family? How about the fact that it’s written by Emma Mills, whose 2015 debut First & Then was one of my favourites last year (with an insanely good book boyfriend)? Here’s what I said about First & Then: “First & Then is more of an homage […]

Kids of Appetite by David Arnold | Waiting on Wednesday

Kids of Appetite by David Arnold | Waiting on Wednesday

I mean, Kids of Appetite by David Arnold is kind of a no-brainer given that Mosquitoland was my only 5-star review of last year, right? Arnold is a master storyteller, a weird and wonderful wordsmith, and someone who takes the craft of writing to a higher level. Go read my review if you don’t believe me. Aside from that, I love, love, LOVE the concept of two kids in separate interrogation rooms and finding out about their friendship through testimony. Gah. And the fact that they bond while listening to the Lakme Flower Duet…that’s just candy to a classical-singing girl like […]

Waiting on Wednesday: A Tyranny of Petticoats edited by Jessica Spotswood

Waiting on Wednesday: A Tyranny of Petticoats edited by Jessica Spotswood

I am so late with the WoW, but I just heard about it, and I’m in love. YA stories that talk about bad-ass women on the fringes throughout history? Seriously, sign me up! I’ll be honest, I’ve only ever read Elizabeth Wein, Leslye Walton, and Marissa Meyer from this enormous list of authors, but I love them and I BELIEVE. Is A TYRANNY OF PETTICOATS on your TBR? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know and I’ll stop by! —– “Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that book […]

| Waiting on Wednesday | Leave Me by Gayle Forman

| Waiting on Wednesday | Leave Me by Gayle Forman

I don’t think there’s anything I really need to say about this other than GAYLE. EFFING. FORMAN. My favorite author writing adult books. …But if I did want to say something, I would say: 1) that cover is beautiful 2) it has travel in it, and I have seriously good feelings about Gayle and travel writing 3) what Gayle does better than any author is tap into my journey, my feelings, and I can tell you right now…as someone who often wishes she weren’t an adult with responsibilities, this book is gonna hurt so good. Is LEAVE ME by Gayle […]

Waiting on Wednesday: You Know Me Well by Nina Lacour & David Levithan

Waiting on Wednesday: You Know Me Well by Nina Lacour & David Levithan

I am SO on this book. Nina Lacour & David Levithan? YES. Two gay teens coming together on one night to figure out their lives? SO YES. Will they fall in love with each other or just help each other with their own issues? Will they take leaps of faith in one night? Will the narrative take place in more than one night? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. And so many heart eyes. JUST GIVE ME THE BOOK. Is You Know Me Well on your To Be Read List? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know and I’ll stop […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Inside of Out by Jenn Marie Thorne

Waiting on Wednesday: The Inside of Out by Jenn Marie Thorne

I first read Jenn Marie Thorne’s excellent debut, The Wrong Side of Right, in August, and it’s one of the best YA books I’ve read that deals with politics (I haven’t reviewed it yet – will get to it, promise!). Jenn’s writing is quietly impactful and insightful – I feel like The Wrong Side of Right is one of those books that flew under the radar a bit and shouldn’t have. So I’m really excited to see a companion, of sorts, set in the same world as Jenn’s first novel, and dealing with some of the same media pressures, but […]

#WaitingonWednesday: All We Have Left by Wendy Mills

#WaitingonWednesday: All We Have Left by Wendy Mills

Yesterday, the lovely publicity & marketing ladies at Bloomsbury Kids held their Spring Preview event. They live-streamed their pitches for upcoming books coming out from about March 2016 onwards and us bloggers went a little nuts with all the pretties waved in front of us. All We Have Left by Wendy Mills was the book that immediately caught my eye (that cover feeds my watercolour-loving soul – look how well it matches my blog!) and heart. @mostlyyalit SAME. That one is sure to make me cry. #BloomsburySpringPreview — Kit Katlin (@KaitlinS16) October 27, 2015 ALL WE HAVE LEFT would be […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani & Mindi Scott

Waiting on Wednesday: The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani & Mindi Scott

Last week, Vilma from Vilma’s Book Blog posted the cover to The Way Back to You, a gorgeous upcoming YA contemp by Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott and I fell in love. Then I read the synopsis and fell in love even more. I haven’t read anything by these two authors, but road trip, friendship-to-possible-romance, a quest, self-discovery after mourning…this book hits so many of my YA-need-it-now buttons. May 2016…you are killing it with the upcoming releases. Are you waiting to read The Way Back to You? What are the phrases or concepts that hit your YA-need-it-now buttons? What are you […]
