La Vie En Rose: The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt

REVIEW: The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt SWOONS. BOOK BOYFRIENDS. What else can I say to get your attention? Because The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt has both of those things in epic amounts. We’re talking full-on butterflies in your stomach, tears in your eyes, Anna and the French Kiss levels of swoons. When I first heard about The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt, I really liked the idea of a girl being in an intensive language course over the summer and falling for her language partner. I thought that The Distance from […]

#WaitingonWednesday: All We Have Left by Wendy Mills

Yesterday, the lovely publicity & marketing ladies at Bloomsbury Kids held their Spring Preview event. They live-streamed their pitches for upcoming books coming out from about March 2016 onwards and us bloggers went a little nuts with all the pretties waved in front of us. All We Have Left by Wendy Mills was the book that immediately caught my eye (that cover feeds my watercolour-loving soul – look how well it matches my blog!) and heart. @mostlyyalit SAME. That one is sure to make me cry. #BloomsburySpringPreview — Kit Katlin (@KaitlinS16) October 27, 2015 ALL WE HAVE LEFT would be […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani & Mindi Scott

Waiting on Wednesday: The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani & Mindi Scott

Last week, Vilma from Vilma’s Book Blog posted the cover to The Way Back to You, a gorgeous upcoming YA contemp by Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott and I fell in love. Then I read the synopsis and fell in love even more. I haven’t read anything by these two authors, but road trip, friendship-to-possible-romance, a quest, self-discovery after mourning…this book hits so many of my YA-need-it-now buttons. May 2016…you are killing it with the upcoming releases. Are you waiting to read The Way Back to You? What are the phrases or concepts that hit your YA-need-it-now buttons? What are you […]

: Review: The Distance From Me To You by Marina Gessner

Review: The Distance From Me To You is a book for people who like no-nonsense writing and fast pacing. It’s a straightforward look at stubborn, independent McKenna, a 17-year old who decides to hike the entire Appalachian Trail after high school. Without her parents knowing, McKenna decides to go it alone after being abandoned at the last moment by her best friend. Along the way, she meets and falls in love with thru hiker, Sam, who is trying to outrun his very broken home life. The bulk of this book deals with Sam’s and McKenna’s relationship and his belief that […]

“Like You’re My Mirror”: Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

Review: Spoilers for A Thousand Pieces of You, the first book in the series. Don’t you dare read on if you haven’t read the first one – go check out my review for ATPOY instead.  Claudia Gray, you brilliant, evil genius, you. In A Thousand Pieces of You, I raced through the different worlds with Marguerite, fell in love with Paul right with her, and learned about how to traverse the universes. Descriptive world-building and a fast-pace kept things going, but left me wanting more character development. Ten Thousand Skies Above You has Marguerite whipping through worlds with a lot more […]

#WaitingonWednesday: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

#WaitingonWednesday: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

THIS BOOK COVER IS THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING FOR ME. ICE CREAM? Check. Summer? Check. DOGS? Check. Morgan Matson? Check, check, check. I already have a massive thing for books about kids in political families. So Morgan Matson writing a book about that? I’m so there. This is the Morgan Matson whose debut novel, Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, got me writing again. The same Morgan who slayed my heart with the glorious realness of Emily in Since You’ve Been Gone. The same Matson whose sophomore novel, Second Chance Summer, I’m terrified of reading because I’m afraid I’ll die of feels. […]

: Juniors by Kaui Hart Hemmings

: Juniors by Kaui Hart Hemmings

Review: I admit it: I wanted to read Juniors because I fell in love with the movie The Descendants, which is based on Kaui Hart Hemmings’ eponymous novel. I loved the way that the screenplay perfectly captured the conflict of the teenage daughter and the protagonist father, and I liked how we got a glimpse of some of the cultural and class issues in Hawaii. Juniors expands on those issues, this time fully from the perspective of a teenage girl. Lea Lane is a part-Hawaiian girl who has just moved back to Oahu after several years in California. She’s been enrolled […]

#WaitingonWednesday: The Square Root of Summer by Harriet Reuter Hapgood

#WaitingonWednesday: The Square Root of Summer by Harriet Reuter Hapgood

I heard about The Square Root of Summer awhile back while perusing catalogues for Spring 2016 (that font treatment is perfection!), but it wasn’t until last weekend’s Raincoast Books Teen Preview that I got super excited. Physics and time travel in books is one of my auto-buy triggers, and the fact that the author wrote a thesis on Dawson’s Creek basically sold me on her forever. Is The Square Root of Summer on your TBR? Are you obsessed with science in your books, too? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know and I’ll stop by! Want to win a Sept […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

Waiting on Wednesday: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

I’ve had several of Dahlia’s books on my TBR for ages, and I’m pretty excited to read them, but this one…this synopsis really got me. Maybe because it’s a bit more grounded than her Daylight Falls series, which features Hollywood actors. Either way, I love the whole senior year visiting colleges thing – it’s something that resonated a lot with me because as a senior at my American high school in Hong Kong, figuring out the right college for me dominated my every thought (especially since I couldn’t visit myself). I can’t wait to see Reagan and Victoria figure out […]

“This Slope is Treacherous” Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is about a female Bubble Boy. Madeline has had to live most of her life in isolation in her house because she’s allergic to a ton of things. But then new neighbors move in, including a teenage boy named Olly. Slowly, she gets to know him, but that knowledge comes with the recognition that they can never be together…or can they? I fell in love with Madeline as a character immediately. The very first sentence of the book is “I’ve read many more books than you,” which, you know, pretty much is me (challenge: accepted!). […]
