Recap: Morgan Matson in Toronto!

As some of you know, I had the opportunity to interview one of my all-time favorite authors, Morgan Matson in Toronto a few weeks ago as part of her tour for her fifth book, Save the Date. Was it one of my favorite book events ever? Yes. Was it a highlight of my blogging career? YES. Would it have been amazing even if I hadn’t been moderating? I think so? Here’s what went down at the event for those of you who couldn’t attend or just want to hear what it was like to be an event host! Since this is […]

I’m interviewing Morgan Matson LIVE in Toronto on Friday, June 15!

Hey friends, quick post in case you missed it on Twitter and Instagram! I’m delighted to let you know that I’ll be interviewing one of my all-time favourite authors, Morgan Matson, onstage at Indigo Yorkdale this Friday, June 15 at 7pm! We’ll be chatting about her new book, Save the Date, and I’ve got some fun questions to ask her about themes in her books, donuts, and more. This is definitely one of my blogger dreams come true, and I’m so thankful to Chapters Indigo, Morgan & the team at Simon & Schuster Canada for giving me the opportunity to […]

GIVEAWAY + #BEA15 Recap: Day 3 & the New York weekend!

GIVEAWAY + #BEA15 Recap: Day 3 & the New York weekend!

Hi guys, this is the last of my BEA15 recaps – phew, I’m exhausted just reliving this. Let’s get to it! FRIDAY We got to BEA early (but not too early) so that Sarah (You Should Read This) could get in line for the Six of Crows signing with Leigh Bardugo. I had extra time, so I went to drop off our suitcase (VERY IMPORTANT TIP), and then ran into Rainbow Rowell, said hi, and hugged her! I knew I wasn’t going to get into her line later on, but honestly, all I really wanted was to do that because […]

#BEA15 Recap: Day 2

Hi guys, I’m back with my recap of #BEA15: Day 2! Let’s get to it! THURSDAY We got up super early on Thursday to join a line-up to get into BEA and get Alexandra Bracken’s Passenger! In line, we saw Andi, Sarah, and Danielle (Love at First Page) as well as several other bloggers. Yay bloggers! Me & Danielle (Source: Danielle) When we finally got in, there was a massive rush to get to the Hyperion booth. Sarah laughed at me attempting to run with my still-healing sprained ankle (it was more of a limp-walk?). I was cranky until I […]

BEA15 Recap: Pre-BEA and BEA Day 1!

Hey guys! As some of you know, last week, I attended Book Expo America for the second time. If you don’t know about it, BEA is the mecca of authors, publishers, industry people, and yes, bloggers held in New York each year (well, next year, it’ll be in Chicago). So without further ado, here’s what happened this year for me (along with some tips – tips in bold). PRE-BEA This year I knew how BEA was going to go, so I started packing a bit early and decided that I would try to take my books home with me on […]

#BEA15: Who I Am and Where I’ll Be (Also, Hiatus)!

Hi everyone, as some of you know, I’ll be going to Book Expo America on Tuesday night – I’m super excited for all the books, the bloggers, the authors, and just to be in New York again (I used to live there)! This is me: If you’re there and want to catch up, my best book buddy, Sarah of You Should Read This and I will most likely be in the following places: Wed:  2:30 – 3pm: Leila Sales’ Tonight the Streets Are Ours galley drop – we’re desperate for this one! 3:30pm: BloggerCon End of Day Networking – can’t […]

BEA Recap + Giveaway: Day 3, or Where I Lose All My Professionalism and Make A Total Arse of Myself

Hey guys, I’m back with Part 2 of my BEA recap – read on for some of my most embarrassing moments ever! BEA Day 3: Galley Drops, Signings, Authors, and Blogger Outings, Oh My! I got to Javits early (and DID NOT take the shuttle bus – see Part 1 of my recap for this experience), and headed straight for the Harper Collins booth to get a ticket for Kiera Cass‘ signing that afternoon, and for the galley drop for Amy Zhang’s Falling Into Place, which was one of my most coveted titles for the fall. The drop also included […]

BEA Recap: Blogger Con, musicals, and Day 1

Hi all! I’m back from BEA and somewhat back to real life again – last week was insane for me, as I did BEA, hopped a flight back to Toronto, and got to see all of my old friends at my 10 year reunion from university. On top of that, our entire apartment is in disarray because we’re moving very soon…we bought a house and we take possession in about a week! Anyway, you came here for BEA news, not my personal life! I got into New York late Tuesday and got settled into my friends’ place in Brooklyn. Note […]

Recap: Word on the Street Toronto 2013 (aka I Met Elizabeth Wein!)

(c) Word on the Street Hi everyone! I attended The Word on the Street, a Canadian literary festival, here in Toronto yesterday, a cold, crisp September-y day. I didn’t stay for long because it was chilly, and I guess I wasn’t dressed as warmly as I should have! I mainly went to see Elizabeth Wein, author of Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire. I headed straight for the Remarkable Reads tent when I got to WOTS and there were Angel from Mermaid Visions and Christa from More Than Just Magic. I also met Jessica, a former blogger, and Leonicka […]

Personal Friday: My band, Bitter Foes (and my fiance), and The Friday Society book launch!

So another thing you guys probably don’t know about me is that I’m really into singing. I took a bit of a break from it for awhile (six years?!), but it’s always sort of been with me. We’re called Bitter Foes, obvs.  A couple of years ago, my fiance (then boyfriend) decided we should finally start a band – we’d been talking about it for ages; he’s a pretty talented songwriter, guitarist, singer, keyboardist…he’s basically an amazing musician all around.  We got together a couple of our other friends and this was the result:  Our awesome guitarist, drummer and bassist. […]
