This week’s WoW pick is a super-cute sounding contemp:

Expected publication: May 20, 2014
Soccer star Lainey Mitchell is used to getting what she wants, and when her boyfriend Jason breaks up with her for no reason, what she wants is to win him back before the start of their senior year. Lainey and her friend Bianca check the interwebz for tips and tricks, but the online dating advice is all pretty lame.
Then the girls stumble across a copy of The Art of War. Didn’t someone once say that love is a battlefield? Jason isn’t going to stand a chance once Lainey and Bee go all Zhou Dynasty on him…
Old school strategy and subterfuge meet modern-day dramarama in the story of a girl who sets out to win at all costs and ends up discovering what’s really worth fighting for.
I found out about this book on Ensconced in YA a few weeks ago, and she’s got a great interview with the author, as well as adorable bios on all of the characters – Lainey is a barista, which explains the cute cover, and she ends up convincing her co-worker to pretend to be her boyfriend to make Jason jealous…you know what’s going to happen there. =P
Anyway, I’m a HUGE fan of coffee shop romances – not sure why, but it seems like the perfect place to fall in love over books and warm drinks. And Lainey sounds like such a fun, kick-ass girl. I hope she learns something from her attempts to gain Jason back, and I REALLY hope that includes a bit of soul-searching for her.
Are you guys excited for THE ART OF LAINEY? Isn’t the cover adorable? What are you waiting on this week? Let me know in the comments!
This does sound like fun. The cover is super cute too since she works as a barista:) I hope you get to enjoy this soon.
This isn't my normal kind of book but I loved Venom (written by her alter ego) so I'm willing to give this a chance.
I had NO IDEA she wrote Venom – so she's Fiona Paul? Fascinating. Thanks for letting me know!
Awesome pick. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Happy Wednesday!
