(Notso) Personal Friday: YA for NJ starts today! Go bid now!

Today’s post will have a few cute pics of my pets, but I really wanted to spotlight something bigger than myself. I’m talking about Kieran Scott‘s YA for NJ eBay auctions that start tonight. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast of the US earlier this month. A lot of people lost their homes and belongings in floods, especially people in New Jersey.  In order to help with rebuilding efforts, Kieran (author of the She’s So Dead to Us series, the PRIVATE and PRIVILEGE series, and countless other YA novels that I’ve […]

Throwback Thursday #3: The Love Stories series!

Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by The Housework Can Wait and Never Too Fond of Books. It’s the nature of book blogging to focus mainly on new releases, but there are thousands of great books out there that haven’t seen the “New Releases” shelf in years. We hope to be able to bring attention to some older titles that may not be at the top of the current bestseller list, but still deserve a spot in your To-Be-Read pile. After I posted about Kieran Scott as one of my favorite contemporary YA authors, I had a bit of a conversation with […]

Since this blog is mainly contemporary, I thought I’d assist you by giving a list of my personal favorite contemporary YA authors. […]

The Future of Us by Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler

It’s 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They’ve been best friends almost as long – at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh’s family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they’re automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn’t been invented yet. And they’re looking at themselves fifteen years in the future. By refreshing their pages, […]

This is So Not Happening by Kieran Scott

Someone else on Goodreads said that she knew she was going to dislike this book, but she read it anyway and love-hated it. I feel the same way. Kieran Scott really knows how to tug at your heartstrings, and how to realistically portray teenagers. This Is So Not Happening has one of the best portrayals of teen pregnancy I’ve ever read. It wasn’t from the perspective of the mother, which made it unique and interesting. I didn’t like it, I didn’t want to read about it, but Scott did a great job showing how people reacted, and how things changed […]
