Waiting on Wednesday: Young Widows Club by Alexandra Coutts

Waiting on Wednesday: Young Widows Club by Alexandra Coutts

I’ve been desperate for this book ever since I heard about it. The premise sounds so original: it deals with grief from the perspective of teen widows. Is it weird and wrong that I hope it includes the perspective of a teen whose husband went to war? I feel like that’s a story I want to read in YA. I’m not usually into super mopey books, but I think we could all learn a lot from the women in this book. Is Young Widows Club on your TBR? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know and I’ll […]

Sexual Violence, Bad Boys and A Court of Thrones and Roses

WARNING: Major spoilers for A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, and I will be quoting from some of the explicit, 18+ scenes in this essay.  I know I’m going to be hated for this post, but I can’t not write it, because, very few people are talking about the sexual violence in Sarah J. Maas’ latest bestseller, A Court of Thorns and Roses. So here we go. Way back in the day, I talked about my love for Good Boys, and how Bad Boys are problematic, especially in YA. I’m not one of those people who […]

Mini-Reviews: In Which I Read & Love My First Sarah Ockler Book

The Summer of Chasing Mermaids Author: Sarah Ockler Publisher: Simon Pulse Source/Format: eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss Publication Date: June 9, 2015 My rating: 4 out of 5 stars This was my first Sarah Ockler book, and I’m glad that it lived up to expectations. Ockler paints a gorgeous West Coast landscape to bring to life a story of finding the power and strength to make your voice heard. Elyse, the main character, is a Tobagonian girl who has had her beautiful singing (and speaking) voice ripped away from her in an accident. Elyse was destined to be a […]

GIVEAWAY + #BEA15 Recap: Day 3 & the New York weekend!

GIVEAWAY + #BEA15 Recap: Day 3 & the New York weekend!

Hi guys, this is the last of my BEA15 recaps – phew, I’m exhausted just reliving this. Let’s get to it! FRIDAY We got to BEA early (but not too early) so that Sarah (You Should Read This) could get in line for the Six of Crows signing with Leigh Bardugo. I had extra time, so I went to drop off our suitcase (VERY IMPORTANT TIP), and then ran into Rainbow Rowell, said hi, and hugged her! I knew I wasn’t going to get into her line later on, but honestly, all I really wanted was to do that because […]

#BEA15 Recap: Day 2

Hi guys, I’m back with my recap of #BEA15: Day 2! Let’s get to it! THURSDAY We got up super early on Thursday to join a line-up to get into BEA and get Alexandra Bracken’s Passenger! In line, we saw Andi, Sarah, and Danielle (Love at First Page) as well as several other bloggers. Yay bloggers! Me & Danielle (Source: Danielle) When we finally got in, there was a massive rush to get to the Hyperion booth. Sarah laughed at me attempting to run with my still-healing sprained ankle (it was more of a limp-walk?). I was cranky until I […]

BEA15 Recap: Pre-BEA and BEA Day 1!

Hey guys! As some of you know, last week, I attended Book Expo America for the second time. If you don’t know about it, BEA is the mecca of authors, publishers, industry people, and yes, bloggers held in New York each year (well, next year, it’ll be in Chicago). So without further ado, here’s what happened this year for me (along with some tips – tips in bold). PRE-BEA This year I knew how BEA was going to go, so I started packing a bit early and decided that I would try to take my books home with me on […]

Waiting on Wednesday: First & Then by Emma Mills

Waiting on Wednesday: First & Then by Emma Mills

First & Then Author: Emma Mills Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. (BYR) Expected publication: October 13th 2015 Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life. Pride and Prejudice […]
