Highly Recommended: Letters to the Lost & My Lady Jane | Mini-Reviews

Review: LETTERS TO THE LOST by Brigid Kemmerer Letters to the Lost is a captivating book that delves deeply into two characters’ lives. Juliet Young is a girl who lost her photographer mother in a car accident a few months ago. She is still deeply grieving. Meanwhile, Declan Murphy is an angry guy who is currently doing community service after a traumatic and dangerous incident. The book is beautifully narrated, switching between Juliet and Declan’s perspectives. There’s also really strong dialogue between the characters and their best friends and families, who are well-rounded and real. The romance between Juliet and Declan […]

Just Another Girl by Elizabeth Eulberg | Mini-Review

Just Another Girl by Elizabeth Eulberg | Mini-Review

Mini-Review: Just Another Girl by Elizabeth Eulberg A surprisingly serious read for Elizabeth Eulberg, Just Another Girl deals with our perceptions of girls, love triangles, and how much we learn when we try to give people the benefit of the doubt. The narrative switches between Hope, who is in love with her best friend Brady, and Parker, who is currently dating Brady and is in a really bad (but also secret) home situation. When the book starts, we get a lot of Hope’s perspective, and a lot of her pain at having a ginormous crush on Brady. It’s desperate, and […]

Release by Patrick Ness | Waiting on Wednesday

Reasons RELEASE by Patrick Ness is on the tippy-top of my To Be Read list: 1) It’s inspired by Mrs. Dalloway, my favorite novel by my favorite author Virginia Woolf. Like, on my top 5 favorite books of ALL TIME. 2) It’s written by Patrick Ness, King of Cats, YA author extraordinaire of gems like The Rest of Us Just Live Here, A Monster Calls, and the soul destroying The Knife of Never Letting Go. Oh yeah, and he also wrote Class, the Doctor Who spinoff. 3) Reading a Ness book is always about pushing the envelope in some way – […]

Recently in Romance #6 | New Sarina Bowen, Lucy Parker, and More!

Since becoming a romance reader a few years ago, I’ve struggled to figure out where romance reviews belong on my site. I don’t usually write full reviews of romance books, and I’m not sure if all of you like the X-rated books! Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans. Recently Read: 4 stars. As a lot of you know, I am a huge, ginormous Sarina Bowen fan. I love all of her books, but her male/male romance writing is where she really shines. This romance […]

Mini-Reviews: Seven Days of You and The Other F-Word

REVIEW: Seven Days of You by Cecilia Vinesse So much of what the main character of Seven Days of You, Sophia Wachowski, experiences in her last week in Tokyo before moving back to the States for her senior year, is steeped in what it means to be an international student in Asia. It’s a love letter to Tokyo and to the international student crowd. Sophia doesn’t want to be leaving Japan, especially right before her senior year. She finally has her first ever real best friend, and a boy friend who she wants to be a boyfriend. At the same time, […]

Hi all, happy International Women’s Day! Happy Women’s History Month! I’m so delighted today to be hosting a special giveaway of two amazing, girl-centric, feminist books: Here We Are: Feminism For the Real World edited by Kelly Jensen, and Boss Babes: A Coloring & Activity Book for Grown-Ups by Michelle Volansky! A little background on this giveaway: As a lot of you know, I’m a feminist and a strong supporter of equality. It’s been deeply disturbing to see what’s going on in the US with regards to President Trump and women’s rights. And it’s even scarier to see how threads of misogyny, prejudice, […]

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner | Review

Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner To read Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner is to go through the entire grief process. To mourn, to rage, to laugh, to remember, and to hold and release. It’s a reading experience that I’ve not had with many books, and I’m not sure I’ll have again. Carver Briggs just lost his three best friends, Mars, Blake, and Eli, in a car accident – one that he might have accidentally caused by texting his friend who was driving. Some of the families of his friends feel the accident is his fault; there’s a possibility that […]
