Fans of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Looking for Alaska will love this heartbreaking and at times humorous look into one teen’s life after the death of his best friends.
Carver Briggs never thought a simple text would cause a fatal crash, killing his three best friends, Mars, Eli, and Blake. But now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident and even worse, a powerful judge is pressuring the district attorney to open up a criminal investigation.
Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a “goodbye day” together to share their memories and say a proper farewell.
Soon the other families are asking for their own goodbye day with Carver—but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these Goodbye Days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?
A few months ago, I read and fell completely in love with The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. It’s one of those books that you don’t expect to be a contemporary or even a YA book, and even then, I didn’t expect it to be MY book.
It was. It totally, totally was. I loved the characters, the writing, the banter in The Serpent King SO much, and I’ve been shoving it into people’s hands all over. When I gushed about it to my contact at Penguin Random House Canada a few months ago, her response? “Just wait for Goodbye Days. It’s even better.”
Is GOODBYE DAYS on your TBR? Have you read The Serpent King? What are you waiting for this week? Let me know and I’ll stop by!

Wow. You’ve made me want to read both The Serpent King and Goodbye Days! And I’m not usually in for Contemporary YA!
Here’s my #WoW
I haven’t read The Serpent King yet, but it’s on my TBR. This one looks like it’s gonna be great, as well. Nice pick!

This is new to me but sounds like it could be heartbreaking and yet hopeful at the same time. Such a tough subject matter, can only imagine the guilt the character would be carrying around. I hope it’s a s good as it sounds!
The Serpent King was such a standout. I cannot wait to read this one!
Oh my goodness, a new book by Jeff Zentner?! I can’t wait! The Serpent King is one of my absolute favorites…is it bad that I didn’t even care what this was about, but as soon as I saw his name as the author I got super excited? Definitely going to be preordering this one!
While The Serpent King was good, I didn’t LOVE it. Not sure if this one will be for me either, but sounds like something I’d like to get for my school library though.
Check out my WOW
