Noteworthy by Riley Redgate | Review

Review: Wow, wow, wow. If you are not putting Noteworthy on your to-be-read list right now, you are missing out. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adored this a cappella-themed diverse, contemporary YA novel. It’s way WAY more than I expected it to be. I mean, yes, it’s a cute premise (cross-dressing to join a boys a cappella group? GIVE IT TO ME). Yes, it has an incredibly diverse and honest cast. Yes, it’s #ownvoices. But all of that doesn’t tell you just how deep author Riley Redgate goes to create rounded characters – characters who […]

Just Another Girl by Elizabeth Eulberg | Mini-Review

Mini-Review: Just Another Girl by Elizabeth Eulberg A surprisingly serious read for Elizabeth Eulberg, Just Another Girl deals with our perceptions of girls, love triangles, and how much we learn when we try to give people the benefit of the doubt. The narrative switches between Hope, who is in love with her best friend Brady, and Parker, who is currently dating Brady and is in a really bad (but also secret) home situation. When the book starts, we get a lot of Hope’s perspective, and a lot of her pain at having a ginormous crush on Brady. It’s desperate, and […]

All We Have is Now by Lisa Schroeder

All We Have Is Now was on my 2015 most anticipated books list because frankly, I’m a little stressed by the idea of annihilation. The synopsis immediately gave me a heady feeling that what we do matters because the main characters in this journey decide to make their last moments on earth count by helping others fulfill their dreams. Does it sound noble? Yes. Is it a bit unrealistic? Definitely. But ultimately, the feelings I got while reading this book were ones of reading something beautiful and true, even if it’s wrapped in a bit of a sheen. The novel is […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Tales From My Closet by Jennifer Anne Moses

Tales From My ClosetAuthor: Jennifer Anne Moses (website) Publisher: Scholastic PressExpected publication date: January 28, 2014  Goodreads synopsis:Five girls. A paper dress. Tons of shoes. One unforgettable raincoat. White Jeans. Secrets. Drama. Friends? For Justine, Bianca, Becka, Polly, and Anne, living in Westfield, New Jersey is “life on planet toilet paper.” At least that’s how Justine feels when she shows up as the new girl in school wearing a Scott Paper Caper dress. To her, it’s a super-original fashion statement. But other “loser freaks” don’t agree. The other girls have their own fashion issues, ranging from fabulous boots to raggedy pajamas to […]
