GIVEAWAY: Happy Blogoversary, Mostly YA Lit!

Guys, it’s my three year blogoversary! Yes, it’s true, Mostly YA Lit is three years old, and she’s celebrating in style this year with a brand spankin’ new design, courtesy of Hazel @ Stay Bookish and a move to WordPress self-hosting courtesy of Ashley @ Nose Graze (Creative Whim). Why did I choose to do this? Because it was time. In the past year, I’ve lost tons of blog posts while working on them because of Blogger, and I needed something far more stable to work on. Also, I’ve been spending more time than I need to formatting my posts, […]

(Tiny, Mini) Blog Break

Hi all, just a quick note to let you know that I won’t be doing any posting this week as I have a huge, ginormous show that I’m in until Sunday (1,000 performers! 12 choirs! 12 string quartets! Dancers, actors, performance artists!). The good news is that I’m getting tons of reading done when I’m not singing in rehearsals, and I’m tweeting and Instagramming about it all! Feel free to follow and comment so that I don’t get too bored while counting measures until my next entrance. I couldn’t even properly get a photo of the massive number of choir […]

Dear Teen Me: The Art of Getting Stared At Blog Tour: Guest Post by Author Laura Langston

Hey guys, today I’m excited to be part of the official The Art of Getting Stared At Blog Tour! I didn’t have time to read the book (too many BEA ARCs!), but I really wanted to be part of the tour for this book because I think it addresses self-esteem and appearance issues that we all faced – and still face – as teens and adults. Here’s more on the book! The Art of Getting Stared At Author: Laura Langston (website | twitter | facebook) Publisher: Razorbill Canada (Penguin Canada) Publication date: September 9, 2014 After a school video she produced […]

Blog Break: Moving!

Hi all, very quick update to let you know that I’m not going to be posting or responding much in the next two weeks because I’m moving! Evan and I recently bought our first house (it’s a bit of a fixer-upper) and it’s been crazy busy this last month prepping for the move and getting the house renovated and ready to move into. You will probably see one or two reviews in the next weeks, but I won’t be doing my usual amount of tweeting or replies. I’m definitely looking forward to getting into my house and getting my 10,000 […]

In Which I Get Personal and Philosophical: Early Review: Just Like the Movies by Kelly Fiore

Just Like the Movies Author: Kelly Fiore  Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Children’s (Penguin Canada) Source/Format: eARC via Edelweiss from publisher (thank you!) Expected publication date: July 22, 2014  My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.  Pretty and popular track star Marijke Monti is confident about almost everything – she’s got great friends, a great family, and she’s on her way to the State Track Championship. In fact, the only thing Marijke isn’t confident about is her relationship with Tommy Lawson. Lily Spencer has spent her entire high school career preparing for the future – she’s participated in every extracurricular activity and volunteer committee she […]

Destination Reading: Do You Choose Vacation Books Based On Their Setting?

Happy Independence Day to my friends in the States! Today I’m thinking about travelling and reading, and how I choose my books. Do you guys ever decide to go some place on holiday, and then discover that it’s the perfect place to read a certain book? For instance, the setting or concept of the book just perfectly fits the time, the place, the location? I was just discussing this with Gillian at Writer of Wrongs, and I realized that I am totally a destination reader. There’s nothing better than going for walks and getting lost in a new city, then […]

Book Boyfriends and Pretty Dresses: Welcome to my #YAProm Night!

Hey guys! Tonight I’m heading to the YA Prom with Alexa Loves Books and Ella Bee Reads – I’ll be telling you about my own prom experiences, my dream YA date, my outfit, and my favourite YA dance books! My date: How do I choose from a million book boyfriends? I started by narrowing down to what I thought my ideal date would look like – I’m not into paranormal stuff, and I wouldn’t want a celebrity on my arm because…do I really want a bunch of other girls/guys trying to steal the most popular guy in school from me […]

A Letter to You, My Readers: Where I’ve Been and Where I’m Going

Hi guys, For the past few months, I’ve been taking a lot of me time. You may have noticed that this blog has been silent, even though I’ve been tweeting about books and things. The reason for this? Mainly, being busy. When I made my blog manifesto a few months ago, I promised that real life would always come first. And this time, it really did. A few personal things happened that caused me to stop blogging in October, and then I just…never really got back.  Part of this was because I started two new jobs in the space of […]

Blog Slowdown + Engagement Photos!

Hi guys, you’ve probably noticed that Mostly YA Lit has slowed down a lot in the last couple weeks. The reason for this is that wedding planning and work have taken over my life a bit, and I haven’t had the time or energy to blog. I knew this was going to happen, but I didn’t think it would happen so soon!  I hope you guys will stick with me as I try to get through my last few ARCs and reviews. I’ll be taking a real blog break from mid June to mid July, but I promise that after […]
