Dear Teen Me: The Art of Getting Stared At Blog Tour: Guest Post by Author Laura Langston

Hey guys, today I’m excited to be part of the official The Art of Getting Stared At Blog Tour! I didn’t have time to read the book (too many BEA ARCs!), but I really wanted to be part of the tour for this book because I think it addresses self-esteem and appearance issues that we all faced – and still face – as teens and adults. Here’s more on the book! The Art of Getting Stared At Author: Laura Langston (website | twitter | facebook) Publisher: Razorbill Canada (Penguin Canada) Publication date: September 9, 2014 After a school video she produced […]

Movie Review: Boyhood directed by Richard Linklater

Movie Review: Boyhood directed by Richard Linklater

In another director’s hands, the movie Boyhood could have been cheesy or gimmicky. The very idea of it sounds a bit hokey: “a movie where you literally watch a boy grow up before your eyes.” Filmmaker Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight, Dazed and Confused, dozens of other great movies – also my favourite director) filmed it a few weeks a year, over twelve years, from when the starring actor was five to when he turned eighteen. The actors are the same throughout the twelve years, and you watch them age and change, and a story of a […]

Blog Break

Hi guys – you may have noticed that I haven’t been posting super regularly. Real life and my own personal issues have gotten in the way, so I’ve been in a blogging slump. I’m hoping to get back to it soon, but for now, I’ve been taking time to read without reviewing and fall back in love with other things, like movies! I’ve got lots of books read, though, so I’m hoping to be back and better than ever in November. Until then, happy reading, and see you on the other side! Love, Tiff

In Memory…Roger Ebert (1942 – 2013)

In Memory…Roger Ebert (1942 – 2013)

I started reading Roger Ebert’s reviews when I was in university and just discovering that films were about more than just fun. Yes, they were entertainment, but they were also art, and learning about directors like David Lynch, and Stanley Kubrick, and Quentin Tarantino was a huge eye-opener for me – I think it helped take me out of the idea that our world is such a perfectly safe, happy place where only good things happen to good people. Once I found out about films, I stumbled onto Ebert. I liked his reviews because I tended to agree with a […]

Personal Friday: Introducing Rocky and the Movie You Should Watch Now

So instead of Photo Friday, I’ve decided to call this Personal Friday because it’s always going to be a glimpse into my life. You knew the other one was going to show up at some point. This is Rocky. He’s Jackie’s brother, and he is TOTALLY awesome. Rocky is a dog masquerading as a cat – he loves to cuddle, he loves people and family, he comes and licks our faces all the time, and he has no problem being told what to do. Except when it’s dinner time – then he just wants us to feed him pronto. But […]

TIFF 2012: Review of Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing

I haven’t had a chance to blog about books in awhile because real life is getting in the way. Real life including the three movies I recently saw at the Toronto International Film Festival! So, lucky you, you get a few movie mini-reviews before I get back to our regularly scheduled YA features: Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing Look, if you like Shakespeare, you should totally watch this movie. If you don’t like Shakespeare? You should still totally watch this movie. If you’re a Whedon fan? You should DEFINITELY watch this movie. This is Joss Whedon and Shakespeare stripped […]
