Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner | Review

Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner To read Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner is to go through the entire grief process. To mourn, to rage, to laugh, to remember, and to hold and release. It’s a reading experience that I’ve not had with many books, and I’m not sure I’ll have again. Carver Briggs just lost his three best friends, Mars, Blake, and Eli, in a car accident – one that he might have accidentally caused by texting his friend who was driving. Some of the families of his friends feel the accident is his fault; there’s a possibility that […]

Middle Grade Reads #2 | Omega City: The Forbidden Fortress by Diana Peterfreund and Smile by Raina Telgemeier

A fast-paced, cerebral book, OMEGA CITY: The Forbidden Fortress continues the journey of Gillian Seagret, her brother Eric, and their friends Savannah, Howard, and Nate. Ten months after finding Omega City, an mythical underground town that proves to be real, and escaping the clutches of the Shepherds, a group of conspiracy theorists bent on taking the technology from Omega City for nefarious purposes, Gillian and Eric are now living at home with their mother while their father tours and promotes his book based on their adventures. Gillian’s mom is planning to move them to Idaho, and Gillian’s not happy about […]

Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills | Waiting on Wednesday

Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills | Waiting on Wednesday

I WILL READ ANYTHING EMMA MILLS WRITES. Emma is the lady who gave us the most gorgeous, genuine Pride & Prejudice retelling in a football setting: First & Then. Aka Ezra is my fictional boyfriend-4-eva. Emma is the lady who made us think about fandom and friendship and caring about stuff in This Adventure Ends. Aka Gabe and Sloane-5eva. And now, Emma is giving us Foolish Hearts, with enemies-turned-friends and a high school theatre production (ALWAYS my kryptonite) of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And yeah, like the rest of her covers, this one is UNBELIEVABLY pretty. I say again…I WILL […]

Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen | Cover Reveal

I’ve written several times about my absolute love for Sarina Bowen and her wonderful new adult series. She is one of the few authors whose books I get for review and immediately start! I’m particularly in love with her work writing male/male romances, which I honestly never would have tried had it not been for her. The Understatement of the Year is one of my fave romances ever, and Him and Us are just amazing. Seriously, if you guys are hesitant on m/m, I would definitely encourage you to try one of these. So I’m very excited to be sharing with […]

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart | Waiting on Wednesday

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday: Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart If you’ve been in the YA world for awhile, you know that E. Lockhart writes fierce femmes who aren’t afraid to assert their authority over men. See: Ruby Oliver. See: Frankie Landau-Banks. See: Cadence Sinclair (P.S. We Were Liars deluxe edition coming out in May!!) Ms. Lockhart takes her time with her YA books, only publishing every few years. And the books are usually short. But they are packed with perfect diction, brilliant prose, and twists and turns that slay you. In my opinion, it is very, very hard to write a believable, […]

Mini-Reviews: Wires and Nerve, Lessons in Falling, Romeo and What’s Her Name, The Inside of Out

What a delight to finally get a story from Iko’s perspective. I really enjoyed Wires and Nerve, Vol 1, the first installment of Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles graphic novel series. Even though it’s the first book in the series, I would not recommend reading these without reading the Lunar Chronicles books. You won’t have the emotional attachment or the backstory needed to get into this graphic novel. That said, if you’ve read Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter, you will really enjoy this extra story. Set between the end of Winter and the final story in Stars Above, Iko takes […]

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando | Mini-Review

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando | Mini-Review

Review: You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando I came into You Don’t Know My Name hoping for an Ally Carter like spy story. And knowing Swoon Reads, I expected a fast-paced book with a lot of romance. This book is definitely not Ally Carter, but it does do an okay job with the whole “normal girl who is secretly a spy” idea. I liked Reagan and her friendships, and I enjoyed the romance with her neighbour Luke. I also appreciated that the author took her time showing us Reagan’s teen life and what she leaves behind every time […]

15 Books You Need in the First Half Of 2017 | Top Ten Tuesday

15 Books You Need in the First Half Of 2017 | Top Ten Tuesday

This is the easiest Top Ten Tuesday I’ve done, like, EVER. Also, if this list is to be believed, I will be shedding vats of tears for the next six months. So, in no particular order, but actually sort of in order? 15 Books You Need in the First Half Of 2017            1.  2.  3.  4.  5. 1. The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord | May 16 – Emery Lord fangirl here. This book is about a girl going to summer camp and a struggle with faith. Basically, it’s about me. Also, it’s […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy

Waiting on Wednesday: Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy

RAMONA BLUE. *grabby hands* As some of you may know, I ADORED Julie Murphy’s last book, DUMPLIN.  It’s about a fat girl living in a pageant-obsessed Texan small-town who gets the guy. And it’s so much more than what I just wrote, and one of the best contemporary YA books out there. So obviously, Ramona Blue and ANYTHING JULIE MURPHY WRITES is on my auto-buy list. I already love how complex Ramona’s sexual orientation is going to be. DUMPLIN was also weighty with responsibility and expectations placed on teens, so I’m excited to see how Ramona deals with these pressures. Basically, […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Changes in Latitudes by Jen Malone

Waiting on Wednesday: Changes in Latitudes by Jen Malone

Guys, it’s been a hard week over here, what with the American election and just general in-shock-in-mourning feelings. I haven’t felt much like blogging, but I’m here again to cheer you with an upcoming release! And if you need even more happy frivolity, head over to Andi’s ABCs today, where I’m guest-posting about my recent favorite (mostly cat-related) things. Jen Malone’s Wanderlost was one of my surprise favorite summer books this year. A European vacation, unexpected self-discovery, and a cute boy…it’s pretty much everything you could want from a summer romance. So when I saw Changes in Latitudes on Epic […]
