Emery stole my heart with Open Road Summer. I haven’t even reviewed it yet because I don’t know how to honour a book that made that big an impression on me. It inspired me to listen to Taylor Swift. It made me hug my best friend. It made me work on an entire essay about characters who have their guards up and how to read Reagan.
I’m starting The Start of You and Me this week, and I can’t wait to sink back into Emery’s world of summer and friendship and banter and picture-painting with words.
When We Collided sounds different, like it might be more heart-breaking than the other two…and I’m okay with that. I think what Emery does best is bring out every emotion and put it out there, bare, for people to see. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does with Vivi and Jonah.
