Being Sloane Jacobs
Author: Lauren Morrill (website | twitter)

Publisher: Delacorte
Expected publication date: January 7, 2014
Meet Sloane Emily Jacobs: a seriously stressed-out figure-skater from Washington, D.C., who choked during junior nationals and isn’t sure she’s ready for a comeback. What she does know is that she’d give anything to escape the mass of misery that is her life.

Now meet Sloane Devon Jacobs, a spunky ice hockey player from Philly who’s been suspended from her team for too many aggressive hip checks. Her punishment? Hockey camp, now, when she’s playing the worst she’s ever played. If she messes up? Her life will be over.

When the two Sloanes meet by chance in Montreal and decide to trade places for the summer, each girl thinks she’s the lucky one: no strangers to judge or laugh at Sloane Emily, no scouts expecting Sloane Devon to be a hero. But it didn’t occur to Sloane E. that while avoiding sequins and axels she might meet a hockey hottie—and Sloane D. never expected to run into a familiar (and very good-looking) face from home. It’s not long before the Sloanes discover that convincing people you’re someone else might be more difficult than being yourself.

HOW DID I NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS BOOK? This is one of those perfect-for-Tiff books that only comes along once in awhile. Here’s the evidence:
1) Figure-skating + hockey? See: The Cutting Edge, one of my all-time favourite romantic comedies (I’ve also watched almost all of the pretty terrible sequels [confession: I did not know about that last one until now and I might be watching it tonight]).
2) Life swap? See: Freaky Friday and She’s the Man, two of my favourite teen remakes with tons of life swapping. Also, “The Princess and the Pauper“, a little-known but tres-awesome Kate Brian classic.
3) Montreal? Hell yeah, Canadian content, and in one of my fave Canadian cities.
5) Finding out more about yourself? I LIVE for the kind of reflection that happens when you do something crazy (like life-swapping) – I can’t wait to read about this one!
6) THAT COVER. Holy COW. I’m SWOONING for the colours.

Are you excited for BEING SLOANE JACOBS? Could the wait until January be any longer? What are you waiting for this week? Sound off in the comments!
