Two Books About Trauma and Its Aftermath

Hi guys, today I have nice, light-hearted reviews for you, perfect for sum–I’m just kidding. And I probably shouldn’t kid about this. Today I’m reviewing All We Have Left by Wendy Mills and 738 Days by Stacey Kade. These are two very different books about trauma and that deal with grief in different situations and circumstances. They’re not super easy to read, but they’re both pretty good and portray trauma with honesty and compassion. Read on for my thoughts. Two Books About Trauma and Its Aftermath A moving portrayal of the before and after of 9/11 and how it affects […]

Recently in Romance: Sarina Bowen Edition, Part 1!

Since becoming a romance reader two years ago, I’ve struggled to figure out where romance reviews belong on my site. I don’t usually write full reviews of romance books, and I’m not sure if all of you like the X-rated books! Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans. —- Guys, what do you do when you’re book slumping? In my case, when I’m burnt out on reading, I often turn to romance. And for the next two days, I’ll be giving you some serious recommendations […]

Top Ten Books To Read While Waiting for the Gilmore Girls Revival

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is “books to read if you’re in the mood for…” and I knew exactly what I wanted to talk about. GILMORE GIRLS IS COMING BACK. I realize it’s not YA, more book-adjacent, but guys, I’m SO EXCITED FOR THIS REVIVAL! And don’t lie to me and tell me you didn’t watch it, you booklover, you. I know you totally fist-punched every time Rory had her nose in a book, sniffed a book, or pretended to be organizing books but was secretly just reading them. See this quote from Rory’s high school valedictorian speech: “I […]

: The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet by Kate Rorick and Rachel Kiley

The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet is a love letter to fans of the wildly popular webseries, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. There’s no other way to put it. In the Acknowledgments, the authors say that the book would not have existed if people hadn’t voiced their love, affection, and concern for this version of Lydia Bennet. So it seems absolutely right that Lydia should finally get her own story via the voices of those who loved her…because this book, in, itself, is all about Lydia reclaiming her voice. But I’m getting ahead of myself. If you haven’t heard of The Lizzie Bennet […]

Mini-Reviews: Meet the Austins, When the Stars Align & Scarlet

Despite my enduring love for Madeleine L’Engle and my obsession with her lesser-known heroine Vicky Austin, for some reason I never quite got to Meet the Austins. Maybe because I knew that it didn’t involve any of the scientific elements that feature in so many of her later novels, maybe because Vicky is only 12 in this novel. I’m grateful that my book club forced me to finally read it! Meet the Austins is a very sweet middle-grade, and a great introduction to the loving, warm Austin family. Chapters are essentially episodes in the Austins’ lives as they bring spoiled orphan […]
