Recently in Romance #4 | Bedmates by Nichole Chase, new Courtney Milan & more!

Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans of romance and erotica. Recently Read: I really enjoyed Bedmates by Nichole Chase, the author’s take on “American royalty” aka the President’s daughter and the Vice-President’s son. This is an adorable romance between Maddie and Jake, who have known each other for a long time but are seeing each other anew. It started off choppy with alternating points of view, but smoothed out as the characters became more comfortable with each other. It’s also an interesting, if a light […]

Girls With Guts: Girl Mans Up and Overdrive | Gritty Canadian YA

Hi all, I’m back from Asia! I know I promised more reviews than I managed to post – the vacation totally sapped all my reading and blogging time. To make up for it, today I have two mini-reviews of two gritty Canadian YA contemporaries – both are contemporaries, and both deal with kick-arse girls – girls with guts who take on some really hardcore situations. Hope you enjoy, and I promise I will have more reviews and a recap of my awesome vacation soon! I was really excited to read Girl Mans Up by M.E. Girard because I’ve never read a […]

Two Books About Trauma and Its Aftermath

Hi guys, today I have nice, light-hearted reviews for you, perfect for sum–I’m just kidding. And I probably shouldn’t kid about this. Today I’m reviewing All We Have Left by Wendy Mills and 738 Days by Stacey Kade. These are two very different books about trauma and that deal with grief in different situations and circumstances. They’re not super easy to read, but they’re both pretty good and portray trauma with honesty and compassion. Read on for my thoughts. Two Books About Trauma and Its Aftermath A moving portrayal of the before and after of 9/11 and how it affects […]

Hi guys, I’m back today with Part 2 of my Sarina Bowen love fest! If you missed Part 1, Sarina is a new adult romance author whose books I’ve absolutely fallen in love with. Today I’ll be reviewing the Him series, her male/male hockey romance collaboration with Elle Kennedy, as well as her newest books, and my personal favorites, Bittersweet and Steadfast, from her True North series set in Vermont. The True North series by Sarina Bowen LOVE LOVE LOVE. Sarina […]

Recently in Romance: Sarina Bowen Edition, Part 1!

Since becoming a romance reader two years ago, I’ve struggled to figure out where romance reviews belong on my site. I don’t usually write full reviews of romance books, and I’m not sure if all of you like the X-rated books! Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans. —- Guys, what do you do when you’re book slumping? In my case, when I’m burnt out on reading, I often turn to romance. And for the next two days, I’ll be giving you some serious recommendations […]

Two Geektastic Reads for the Avenger in All of Us

Summer, to me, is usually always about the beach and the lake and sunshine and contemporary romances. But, let’s be honest, we can’t be on vacation all the time. Summer is also all about the blockbuster movie – you know, that geeky DC or Marvel movie with exploding stuff that you watch in a too-air-conditioned theatre. Or the sci-fi one where the world is ending and there’s a tiny group of humans who have to save the day. I haven’t watched a ton of those movies this summer, but I have been reading a few books that are kind of similar, […]

Mini-Reviews: June and July 2016 Releases!

Hi guys, apologies for the lack of posts recently…I’ve been sick, so I’ve been reading, but maybe not as much as I hoped. Anyway, I hope your summer has been great so far! I’ve been reading some pretty solid books recently, from middle grade to YA to women’s fiction, so check out these reviews and let me know if anything sparks your interest! Middle Grade Wonderful. Quinnen’s story is a classic one of loss, loved ones, and moving on, but it’s done in such a smooth, effortless way that it never feels cliche. I loved the uniqueness of the homestays […]

You Know Me Well & The Way to Game the Walk of Shame | Mini-Reviews

Hey guys! Today I’ve got reviews of YOU KNOW ME WELL by David Levithan and Nina Lacour, and THE WAY TO GAME THE WALK OF SHAME by Jenn P. Nguyen. Normally I save up a few more minis before posting, but like Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner says more eloquently, it’s summer, so I’m lightening the load a bit and doing more mini-reviews in shorter posts. Hope these help you decide on your next read! A fast and pretty YA read, probably great for younger readers. This book reminded me a ton of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist – only, […]

May 2016 Mini-Reviews: The Crown, Hamilton: The Revolution & More!

Hi guys! I’m all over the map with my May 2016 mini-reviews, from audiobooks to new releases to graphic novels. Read on to find out my thoughts on The Crown by Kiera Cass, Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter, An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz, and Saga Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples! ***** No spoilers. Hoo boy. This was easily the fastest read of the whole Selection series, and similar book crack that I couldn’t put down. That […]

[NO SPOILERS] Series Review | The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Background artwork created by Maggie Stiefvater – I’m just borrowing it. Find out how you can own it here! As some of you know, I am a huge fan of The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. It’s actually the only hard paranormal/supernatural series I’ve ever really full-on loved, which is a testament to Maggie’s amazing writing. I was lucky enough to receive my pre-order of The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater super early, so I read and review it (spoiler-free!) for today, release day! And because I hadn’t yet reviewed The Dream Thieves or Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I’m doing that […]
