The Friend Zone, Superfan, The Unhoneymooners & More! | Recently in Romance

Hi guys! Sorry for my long hiatus, blogging always goes out the window for me when my kid isn’t sleeping well! I’ve read some AMAZING romances in the meantime, though, so I hope you’ll check out some of these fan favourites, especially if you’re looking for a beach read! Review: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez Loved this unique story of self-discovery, love at all costs, and friendship. The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez surprised me in the best way possible. Going into the book, I was initially super annoyed by heroine Kristin Peterson’s brashness and her prejudices against anything […]

The Good Luck Charm, Boy Toy, Making Up, and Sweet & Wild | Recently in Romance #9

Hi all, it’s summer, so I’ve been reading a ton of romance! I’ve got a couple of new romances for you to consider – two releasing this month, a couple from fave authors, and one that I read and re-read because it was so darn good. Give them a look! REVIEW: THE GOOD LUCK CHARM BY HELENA HUNTING You guys know how much I love my hockey romances, so when The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting (Toronto author, yay!) was pitched to me, I was an immediate yes. The Good Luck Charm is a second chance contemporary romance starring […]

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang | 5-Star Review

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang | 5-Star Review

Review: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang Wow. WOW. The Kiss Quotient is easily my favorite romance of this year and it will definitely be on my best of 2018. For those of you who have heard the hype for this book, it’s ALL TRUE. This is a diverse, Asian-American, #ownvoices for autism, reverse-Pretty Woman romance. It’s all of that and so much more. Author Helen Hoang draws you into the world of Stella Lane, an econometrician (think statistics for marketing) who is devoted to her work, wealthy, extremely independent – but isn’t great with socializing or recognizing social cues. […]

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff | 5 Star Review

SPOILERS FOR BOOKS 1 and 2: Obsidio is the third book in the Illuminae series, so I’m not going to hold back on spoilers for the first two books. If you’re interested in the series but haven’t read the first two, this is where you should leave (and immediately go get Illuminae or Gemina because let me tell you, this series is epic and ends spectacularly. You won’t be disappointed). Review: OBSIDIO by AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF Obsidio. Whoa. My mind was BLOWN, guys.  We start Obsidio a few months after the crazy end of Gemina. There’s a tribunal […]

“Sarcasm, Thy Name Is Jane” | Review: Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke

“Sarcasm, Thy Name Is Jane” | Review: Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke

Review: Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke Nice Try, Jane Sinner is probably one of the most unique, sarcastic, and philosophical YA books I’ve read. It follows the titular character as she drops out of high school, enrolls at goofy Elbow River Community College, and ends up on House of Orange, a Big Brother-style reality webseries where the contestants (all Elbow River students) must compete for scholarship money and a car. That synopsis alone might make the book seem fun and light, but author Lianne Oelke has a lot more to say than just the fluffy. Told entirely through […]

A 2017 Must-Read: Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

A 2017 Must-Read: Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

Review: Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills This book. THIS BOOK. This book made me want to hug it to my chest, sigh, and start all over again. Emma Mills has done it again with Foolish Hearts. In fact, I would argue that Foolish Hearts surpasses her last two excellent books, First & Then and This Adventure Ends – and that’s saying a lot. Foolish Hearts is definitely one of my favorite contemporaries of 2017. The plot features Claudia Wallace, a high school junior who ends up accidentally overhearing the school’s premier couple, Iris and Paige, breaking up. Claudia’s always been well-liked, […]

Recently in Romance #7 | New Sarina Bowen, Elle Kennedy & all the Kennedy Fox!

Since becoming a romance reader a few years ago, I’ve struggled to figure out where romance reviews belong on my site. Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans. Recently Read: Stay is all about Matt Eriksson, star forward on the Toronto hockey team, and teammate of Ryan Wesley (from HIM and US), and Blake Riley (from US and GOOD BOY). Recently in Romance is my mini-review feature where I bundle my recent reads and buys for those of you who are fans. Recently Read: 4 stars. Mini-Reviews: The Hating Game, Scrappy Little Nobody & Aimee and the Heartthrob

The Hating Game is on my favorites for this year. I read it in one day, one sitting, and I was utterly obsessed 20 percent in. Lucy and Josh work in an office together, and thanks to a merger, they have to sit across from each other and compete for the same job. As a result, the competition and hatred is at an all-time high. They throw witty,  dark insults at each other while both being great at their jobs. Things change when Lucy discovers that maybe the hate is not so hatey after all. Lucy and Josh’s banter is […]
