On Reading Mindfully: What Kinds of Books Are You Reading This Year? | 2019 Reading Challenges

Every year, I participate in a few reading challenges. Usually very quietly, because I hate reading pressure and I’m more of a mood reader, especially now that I have a kid who takes up a lot of time. Usually I don’t even track them very well. However, this year, I decided to give you guys a little preview into the themes I’ll be looking into for 2019. 2019 YEAR OF THE ASIAN READING CHALLENGE I just heard about the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge and I’m absolutely delighted to see it out there. In the past few years, I’ve […]

Hello, Baby! 4 Favorite Baby Books to Read To Your Newborn | BabyLit

Hello, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I’m so happy to be back to blogging again! It feels great to be reading and reviewing again since my baby has taken over my life. In case you missed it, this is my daughter, Gemma. She was born in mid-November.  She’s now 9 weeks old, 8.5 lbs, and an absolute joy. We had quite a ride with her – a lot of extra hospital visits, tears, breastfeeding issues. I’m happy to say that things have levelled out a bit and we’ve gotten into a bit of a routine. Getting to know Gemma has […]

Blog Hiatus | Baby Time (+ Nursery Photos!)

Hi all! It feels a little bit weird to be writing a blog hiatus post when I’ve already been gone so long. But I wanted to let you know, officially, that I’m being induced this weekend! I’m nervous and excited for this new chapter of our lives to begin – and to meet our new little reader. Here are some photos of our nursery – we’ve worked really hard at getting it ready and crafty and pretty for our little girl: Isn’t it cute? I made the ice cream mobile in the leftmost picture, and the wall hangings were made […]

Lately on Mostly YA Lit | Summer & Fall 2017

Hi guys, you may have noticed that things have been a bit slow around here. I wanted to give you an update on what’s been happening. It’s been a massively busy and emotional last few months, especially since I first announced that I was pregnant. So here’s what I’ve been up to. My grandmother: Without a doubt, the single thing that has defined the last few weeks has been my grandmother’s death. She passed away on September 1, and I’m still mourning and trying to process that last week with her. I’m so grateful that we were able to be […]

In Which I Attempt to Read Too Many Books & Inevitably Fail | ARC August 2017

In Which I Attempt to Read Too Many Books & Inevitably Fail | ARC August 2017

I’m woefully behind, you guys, and I hope you’re still with me. Between summer and baby and nursery planning, friends and family, I’ve been pretty slow on the blogging. I’ve been reading steadily, but very lazy about posting. That’s why ARC August is, as always, a way for me to catch up and try to get my anticipated books and reviews up for the fall. Let me just say this: I’ve only done ARC August once before and I pretty much failed immediately. But sometimes, the journey is not about the destination. It’s about setting goals and just having them, […]

Big Announcement…and What’s Coming Up for Mostly YA Lit!

Yes, it’s true. I’m so excited to let you guys know that I’m pregnant! Evan and I are expecting a baby in December! It’s been a wild and long journey to get to this point. The whole process of getting pregnant took us over two years, a lot of heartache, tears, love, support, and science. More on that in a second if you’re interested. You may have noticed that things have been quieter on Mostly YA Lit in the last few months (or you might not have, in which case, please carry on). That’s definitely because the first trimester of being […]

I DON’T Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie | Bookish Confessions #1

Bookish Confessions is a new feature on Mostly YA Lit. Inspired by The Broke and the Bookish’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt on blogging confessions, I realized I had so many bookish or blogger confessions that I needed more time to explore them all. Once every two weeks, I’ll share one shameful truth about me as a reader, blogger and booklover. Ready? Let’s go! Yup, it’s true. I don’t like big books, and I cannot lie. I know I’m supposed to be like, “Yay, big tomes! Yay, more words! Yay, more of living in this book’s world!” I am, after all, […]
