I’m Readathoning!

April 23, 2016 / 3 Comments / Blogging Life, Personal

Hi all, today I’m participating in Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon! This is my first time and I’m nervous and excited. Check back here for my updates as things go on. I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it through 24 hours, but I’ll definitely try for at least 16.

So here we go!

Intro Meme – Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

stack of books for deweys 24 hour readathon mostly ya lit

Here’s my stack:
I’m currently reading The Raven King.
Will be starting Second Chance Summer.
I didn’t finish An Ember in the Ashes when I first read it last year, so trying to finish that.
And if I make it to four, I’ll be reading The Way Back to You.

Definitely most excited about the first two!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

My friend is dropping off Girl Guide cookies later, so I’m pretty excited for that!

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

This is my first readathon and I’m not prepared at all. I’m writing this DURING Hour One, when I should be reading!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to getting through my stack of books and dedicating an entire day to that!

Hour Six:

Pages read: 172
Stopped for: snacks, little breaks, cat pats, husband talks,
Books finished: 0 (in my defense, Stiefvater takes a long time to read!)
Current read: The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

Mini-Challenge: Operation Quotation

Find a quote. It can be on any topic, just make sure it isn’t too long. Then comment on this post with the quote, book and the author to be entered into the prize drawing. For an extra entry, record a quick video (selfie style is fine) of you reciting the quote.

Here’s my quote and video (please excuse the unbrushed hair realness)!

“Even the constellations can see us now: we are seventeen and shattered and still dancing. We have messy, throbbing hearts, and we are stronger than anyone could ever know.” – When We Collided, Emery Lord

Just starting Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

2. How many books have you read so far?

One. THE RAVEN KING(!) by Maggie Stiefvater

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

The one I’m reading!

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

Yes, this is my first readathon, so I took quite a few breaks for: snacks, little breaks, cat pats, husband talks, walk to coffee shop and in my neighbourhood, shopping (bought a top and more snacks!)

How slow I’m going, but also how much people in my real-life are giving me a reprieve because READATHON. =p

End of Event Survey

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

I think hour 14 or 15. My head was aching.

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

Honestly, I think that depends on the reader, but for teen girls, The Selection series is always book crack. I found Second Chance Summer a relief after The Raven King’s heavier prose.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next season?

Maybe one of the challenges could be cheering others on?

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

The mini-challenges were really fun! I like the ones that dont take too much effort or time because then you can get back to reading.

5. How many books did you read?

I finished one and got a quarter of the way through another.

6. What were the names of the books you read?

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson.

7. Which book did you enjoy most?

Well, so far, The Raven King since I finished it!

8. Which did you enjoy least?

N/A

9. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

I think I’d do it again as a reader. I wouldn’t mind hosting a challenge!

10. Pages read: 420.

Overall, this was a really fun experience for me! I enjoyed the camaraderie and the cheering, so I think I’ll be doing it again. thank you to the organizers!
