This full-length novel by debut author Natalie Blitt is a pitch-perfect blend of Stephanie Perkins and Miranda Kenneally that proves the age-old adage: opposites attract.
Seventeen-year-old Abby has only one goal for her summer: to make sure she is fluent in French—well, that, and to get as far away from baseball and her Cubs-obsessed family as possible. A summer of culture and language, with no sports in sight.
That turns out to be impossible, though, because her French partner is the exact kind of boy she was hoping to avoid. Eight weeks. 120 hours of class. 80 hours of conversation practice with someone who seems to wear baseball caps and jerseys every day.
But Zeke in French is a different person than Zeke in English. And Abby can’t help but fall for him, hard. As Abby begins to suspect that Zeke is hiding something, she has to decide if bridging the gap between who she is and who he is is worth the risk.

Abby’s Top Must-Sees in Paris

Angelina Cafe in Paris1. Angelina Cafe.
It’s gorgeous and has hot chocolate that is to die for. Abby is probably going to need to create a system for how often she can go there.

Eiffel Tower2. The Eiffel Tower
It’s cliched, but from there, you can see everything. My guess is that Abby would spend a lot of time up there, particularly on slightly cold days when the tourists don’t venture out.

Berthilion Ice Cream in Paris3. Berthillon Ice Cream on Ile Saint Louis.
It’s off the beaten path and so delicious.
It’s amazing, and not just because of the famous people buried there. Though I’m 100% certain that Abby would regularly text Alice pictures of the graves of famous writers. And that when she’s feeling sad, it would be her go-to place to take a stroll.
 2015_10_06_museerodin
It’s one of the most interesting museums in Paris — or anywhere — and I think it’s another place that Abby would find herself frequenting a lot, though I’m not sure she’d understand why. But it would feel like her kind of place.
The only difficulty of this spot is that it’s outside of the city core, but it’s probably a good thing because otherwise one might go every day. It’s incredible what treasuries you can see (and sometimes afford to buy) in a European flea market.
 Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris
It might be just a bridge, but it’s the bridge. And gorgeous.
Again, it’s touristy but incredible. And similar to the Eiffel Tower, it features an amazing view of Paris.
This would be one of Abby’s most favorite spots. And similar to Pere Lachaise, a great place to go when you just need to be quiet (and don’t want to sit in a cemetery). A whole day could be spent there.
Midnight in Paris Screencap
10. Walking
I know it’s not a destination, but I think for Abby, it would be. Paris is a city meant to be walked through and explored. It’s not a site to site city, it grows on you slowly, becoming part of you. And I think there’d be many days when Abby would prefer just walking through the streets to anything else.

About Natalie Blitt

Author Photo Natalie Blitt

Originally from Canada, Natalie Blitt grew up on a steady diet of loyalist adventure stories. It wasn’t until she moved to Chicago after graduating from McGill and receiving a journalism degree from the University of King’s College, that she learned that not everybody sees the loyalists as the heroes. Now living in the Chicago-area, she dreams up young adult novels of a different sort: more kissing, less guns, but always a lot of loyalty. Natalie works at an education think tank and lives with her husband and their three sons. She knows a lot about baseball. She has no choice.

Natalie is represented by Rena Rossner at the Deborah Harris Agency.

Okay, so obviously Natalie is an expert in Paris – didn’t this list give you the worst wanderlust? Put a salve on it by reading The Distance from A to Z! I should mention that my good friend Andi from Andi’s ABCs read and adored it, and needed so much more of the story that she got Natalie to agree to a few extras IF we can get some reviews up on Amazon!

30 Amazon reviews: Natalie will release a deleted scene on her website.

50 Amazon reviews: Natalie will write a short scene that takes place within six months of the last scene of A to Z.

100 Amazon reviews: Natalie will write a real epilogue that… doesn’t take place in the United States.

Help us out and get reading and reviewing, will you? And let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been to Paris, what your favourite haunts are, and if you’re a Francophile!

    • I haven’t been to Angelina’s or Berthillon and I can’t believe I never knew about them when I was backpacking through Europe. Also, I definitely need to go check out that flea market! This post definitely makes me want to go back. Enjoy your hot chocolate, Wendy!

  1. I just finished reading this book today and it’s SO cute! I loved Abby and Zeke. I’m surprised Montmartre wasn’t on Natalie’s list since Abby loved the movie Amélie. I’ve been to Paris twice, and have visited a few of the places on the list, but I really want to visit Pere Lachaise and the Musée Rodin. Ooh and Angelina! One of my favourite places is the Musée d’Orsay; I love Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir, plus the museum itself is gorgeous. The Louvre is another favourite – it’s a cliché for a reason!

Loved this post. 🙂 I’ll definitely post my review on Amazon on release date because I want more Abby and Zeke!
