Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

P&P MEETS FNL?!?! This book was on my radar a few months ago, but then Gaby mentioned the comparisons in the Bookish Broads Top Ten Tuesday, and Jaime Arkin from Fiction Fare gave it a ridiculously good rating on Goodreads, and I was sold.

I’m already a sucker for sports YA, and I started watching and loving Friday Night Lights a few months ago, but add in Jane Austen and I’m basically in love. I immediately begged for an ARC as soon as possible.

Also, can we talk about the beautiful, simple watercolour cover? Macmillan, you are totally hitting all the right buttons with this one.

Are you excited to read First & Then? Did that comp get you? What are you waiting for this week? Hit the comments and let me know!

  1. Thanks for stopping by my WoW. I had seen this one recently but failed to jot the title down. I have now, thanks to you. I agree, the cover is lovely. I'm hoping there will be arcs at Annual in two weeks!

  2. "Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights" – that's like two of my favorite things put together.
