Stacking the Shelves #2: eBooks, EPIC Ontario Book Bloggers Meet-Up haul, and more!

November 26, 2012 / 1 Comment / Book Events, Uncategorized

It’s been awhile since my last Stacking the Shelves, huh? If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll notice that I just got a new Kobo Mini eReader, thanks to their Black Friday sale, and I am LOVING it. I also amassed a ton of books since the Ontario Book Bloggers’ Meet-Up earlier in the month, and I’ve been going a bit nuts on NetGalley. Here’s what I got:

Bought or acquired myself:

From Amazon.ca (thanks to my wonderful future sis/bro-in-law):

A Wrinkle in Time Graphic Novel by Hope Larson and Madeleine L’Engle – So glad to finally have this in my hands – Madeleine L’Engle is my all-time favourite author, and I love Hope’s illustrations for this beautiful book.

Divergent by Veronica Roth – I really needed to own this. I’ve already re-read it, and I own Insurgent as well.

Meant to Be by Lauren Morill – looked too cute to pass up.

The Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty – bought from various Marketplace sellers on Amazon.ca – once I finished these, I had to have them. They are just as awesome and TEABS-inducing as Forever YA promised!

Bought from Indigo:

Wither by Lauren DeStefano – bargain book for only $5.99.

From Kobo.com and other places on the interwebs:

eBooks of Last Stand, Shot Through the Heart and Night Swimming by Niki Burnham – there was a sale on Shot Through the Heart, which I’ve been waiting to read for quite awhile, so I grabbed it for 95 cents, as well as the other two books. I love Niki’s writing style – it’s fun, sexy, and full of heart. And I feel like her YA books (yes, these are all YAs, despite the romance novel covers) are really believable. I’m in the middle of Shot Through the Heart right now, and it is SO. MUCH. FUN.

Reality Check by Niki Burnham – free short story from Smashwords – companion to the Royally Crushed series, which is awesome and really, really fun. If you haven’t read the three Royally Crushed books, you should really check them out.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith – Found a free epub of this. For read and review for the Toronto Forever Young Adult Book Club – find us on Facebook and join if you’re interested!

From publishers:

Janie Face to Face by Caroline B. Cooney – requested and received from NetGalley. So excited about this. Thank you, Random House!

Being Henry David by Cal Armstead – requested and received from NetGalley – yay! Thank you,

Love You, Hate You and You’re So Sweet by Charis Marsh – thank you to my pal Jim at Dundurn Press! I love ballet books.

Pink by Lili Wilkinson and The Fame Game by Lauren Conrad
– won from Tea Time with EpicReads #bookfeast giveaway!

Borrowed from library:

Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone
and Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
– the wonderful Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner and The Broke and the Bookish recommended this so highly (and so did the EpicReads girls) that I had to grab this from the library asap. Had to show off my Kobo Mini, too!

From Ontario Book Bloggers’ Meet-Up earlier in November:

Met authors and got these books signed:
The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen by Susin Nielsen
ARC of Starling by Lesley Livingston
Natural Order by Brian Francis
Envy by Elizabeth Miles
Huge and ridiculously awesome haul of books and swag from generous publishers and bloggers!
So Close to You by Rachel Carter – traded with Giselle from Book Nerd Canada!
ARC of Speechless by Hannah Harrington
ARC of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
ARC of Red Moon by Benjamin Percy
ARC of Hooked by Liz Fichera
ARC of Sever by Lauren DeStefano (this is why I got Wither!)
ARC of The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
ARC of Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger
The Templeton Twins (graphic novel) by Ellis Weiner and Jeremy Holmes
Dancergirl by Carol M. Tanzman
ARC of Fuse by Julianna Baggott
Who I Kissed by Janet Gurtler
ARC of Sacrifice by Cayla Kluver
Whew! I’m pretty sure I don’t need more books for a year.
What’s in your haul this week? Are you interested in reading any of these books? Let me know – I’m still trying to figure out what to read first!

Love paranormal YA, but tired of vampires and werewolves? Check out my review and giveaway of signed copies RAMPANT or ASCENDANT from Diana Peterfreund’s killer unicorn series!
